MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat teams came up short in getting wins in the final games before Christmas Tuesday.
The Wildcat squads dropped decisions to visiting Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks.
The Jayhawk-Linn boys opened their game against the Wildcat boys with an 18-3 run and never looked back, thumping the Wildcats 52-31.
The loss drops the Marmaton Valley boy’s record to 1-4.
The Jayhawks continued their torrid play in the second quarter to lead 36-10 at the break.
Zach Louk paced Marmaton Valley with eight points and two steals, while Landon Hammond pulled in seven rebounds with six points. Tanner Lewis had two assists.
Taylor Kellerman poured in 20 points for Jayhawk-Linn. Seth Gabbert added 13.
IN THE GIRLS’ contest, a sloppy first quarter had the Jayhawks in front 8-4. The Wildcat girls could not handle the press put on by the Jayhawks in the second quarter.
Jayhawk-Linn was up 28-13 by the break en route to a 46-29 win. Marmaton Valley’s girls are 0-5
Kailey Boyd had eight points and three steals for Marmaton Valley. Maggie Meiwes had seven points, 10 rebounds and one blocked shot. Cheyanne Miller also blocked a shot.
The Wildcats were 8 of 12 from the free-throw line. Jayhawk-Linn went 4 of 8.
Baylea White had 14 points and Emma Hargrove added 10 for the Jayhawks.
In the girls’ junior varsity game, Jayhawk-Linn won 28-14. Hannah Endicott scored eight for Marmaton Valley.
Marmaton Valley resumes play Jan. 4 at Frontenac.
